Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large nineteenth-century Italian country console and farm table is constructed from pine with a distressed beige and cream painted finish. The piece has a scrubbed pine plank top, a straight apron, and four turned legs with simple mouldings. Visible details include a weathered, uneven paint surface with soft wood grain showing through, patinated edges, and cylindrical turned sections on the uprights. The table measures 80 cm high, 250 cm wide, and 66 cm deep, offering an expansive surface area for display or functional tasks. In a modern home, this rustic farmhouse table sits comfortably in a spacious hallway, behind a sofa in a living room, or as a characterful dining surface in an open-plan kitchen or dining space.

FAQs

Traditional Italian farm tables feature practical softwood or hardwood construction with simple aprons, turned legs, and often original paint or wash finishes typical of 19th-century rural craftsmanship.

These tables were primarily constructed using locally sourced woods such as pine, chestnut, or poplar, frequently featuring pegged mortise and tenon joinery alongside turned legs.

Authentic examples exhibit natural wear patterns, uneven paint distress around high-contact areas, historic hand-cut joinery, and signs of natural timber oxidation on exposed unpainted surfaces.

A long console table serves well in an entryway, open-plan living area, or behind a sofa, styled with contemporary ceramic vessels, books, or minimalist lamps to balance historical textures.

Clean the surface gently using a soft dry cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners, wax polish, or abrasive solvents that could strip or discolour historic paint layers.
