For Sale by The Old Yard
Description

An Early 19th C. Pine Serving Table of a great length.  This wonderful piece of furniture has 4 drawers of varying sizes with iron cup handles, the second drawer from the left also has an iron loop and plate which in a previous life had a padlock.  The base stands on 6 legs, the ones on the end having stretchers for added support. Having the original paint finish that has now crackled and bubbled over the years.

The original top has been replaced with an old reclaimed Pine top of a good thickness.

This piece started life as a Serving Table in a large country house but over the years has been used for many purposes, including a workbench, hence the splashes of paint on the base.  It is certainly a unique piece full of history and character.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique pine serving table is a utilitarian piece of furniture traditionally used in 18th and 19th-century kitchens and dining rooms for food preparation and service. These long tables typically feature a durable timber top, multiple drawers for utensil storage, and a sturdy leg structure.

Early 19th-century serving tables were predominantly crafted from pine or oak, joined using traditional mortise and tenon cabinetmaking methods. The bases were frequently painted or stained to protect the wood, while the top surfaces were left scrubbed or natural for food preparation.

Authentic 19th-century pine servers exhibit structural indicators such as hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, period-correct iron or brass hardware, and uneven wear patterns along the timber base. The underside often displays hand-planed wood marks and rough-sawn textures consistent with traditional manufacturing.

A long antique serving table functions effectively as a statement console table in an entrance hall or positioned behind a sofa in an open-plan living area. It can also serve as a kitchen island or sideboard, introducing texture and architectural scale to contemporary spaces.

To preserve the timber, clean the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish biannually. Avoid positioning the table adjacent to direct heat sources or in environments with high humidity fluctuations to prevent timber movement.
