Japanese Satsuma Koro Meiji Period

19th century
Description

This is a super Meiji period Japanese Satsuma koro with seated boy knop and twin scroll handles dating from around 1870. The koro is in excellent original condition and is typically decorated with figures in landscape panels within brocade borders. The lidded urn has a three-character mark for the artisan to the base.

Perfect condition with no damage or restoration.

This is a good size measuring 21cm high by wide and deep.

An antique Satsuma koro is crafted from light-coloured earthenware clay coated with a clear crackle glaze, decorated using overglaze polychrome enamels and gold leaf gilding.
