Description

Dutch Delft polychrome charger, c. 1700. The large lobed charger, moulded with a central boss, and painted to the centre, in blue, green and yellow, with flowers.

The rim with a continuous band of stylised tulips.

Set upon a circular foot rim.

Diameter – 34.5 cm, 13 5/8”.

Condition – Some small chips to the reverse of the rim. No cracks. No restoration.

A Dutch Delft polychrome charger is a large, tin-glazed earthenware serving platter decorated in multiple enamel colours, manufactured in Delft, Netherlands, during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Delftware was created using refined earthenware clay dipped in an opaque white tin glaze, which provided a canvas for hand-painted cobalt blue, yellow, and green oxides prior to kiln firing.
