A beautifully made and highly practical Edwardian mahogany adjustable writing desk, dating to the early 20th century.
The desk features a cleverly engineered rising and tilting top, supported by a multi-position ratchet mechanism, allowing it to be set at various heights and angles. When raised, the internal structure forms a distinctive stepped, almost zig-zag arrangement.
Below, three drawers run across the front, each fitted with decorative brass drop handles and ribbon shaped escutcheons, adding classical touch while offering useful storage.
The desk stands on slender legs with elegant pierced corner brackets, giving a light and architectural feel. It is raised on its original brass castors for ease of movement.
The mahogany throughout has a rich, warm tone with attractive figuring, enhancing the overall character of the piece.
Ideal for use as a writing desk, reading table, or statement piece in both residential and retail interiors.
