This Edwardian cylinder bureau dates from circa 1910 in the English Country House style. Constructed from solid figured mahogany with contrasting satinwood crossbanded borders and warm brown tones, the desk stands on square tapered legs united by a bow stretcher. Polished brass swan-neck drop handles with circular backplates furnish the three upper small drawers and the single long frieze drawer below. The curved fall front bears an intricate floral marquetry inlay featuring a central urn motif flanked by scrolling foliage, complemented by fine linear banding along the framing. Measuring 95 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 48.5 cm deep, this practical writing table functions effectively in a study, home office, or living room as a dedicated workspace or traditional writing surface.

Edwardian cylinder bureaux are defined by their curved roll-down wooden fronts, lighter proportions compared to Victorian predecessors, and extensive use of inlay, crossbanding, and marquetry influenced by 18th-century Sheraton designs.

These bureaux were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, adorned with satinwood or boxwood inlays, floral marquetry, and fitted with cast brass handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished dovetail jointing on drawers, original brass lock mechanisms, precise veneer work, and natural signs of age such as slight patination on exposed timber and brassware.

A slim cylinder bureau functions well in a contemporary home office, hallway, or living room alcove, providing a compact workspace while serving as an accent piece alongside clean-lined furniture.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft dry cloth and applying high-grade beeswax twice a year in the direction of the grain, while avoiding direct sunlight and proximity to heat sources to prevent timber cracking or veneer lifting.
