Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This heavy silver-plated desk tidy originates from the 1910 Rococo Revival period and measures 4 cm high, 32 cm wide, and 25 cm deep. The rectangular silver piece includes a decorative scrollwork border, moulded pen grooves, two square inkwell recesses, and escallop shell designs positioned above corner lion feet. The shiny metallic finish reflects the surroundings, showing visible surface marks and tarnishing consistent with age. Maker stamps appear underneath the base. Suitable for an office desk in a gentleman's library, the piece holds writing instruments and inkwells while providing a polished surface for everyday organisation. The raised feet elevate the tidy off the work surface, protecting the timber below. Placed beside a blotter or writing pad, this desk accessory adds a traditional aesthetic to a study workspace.

FAQs

Desk tidies and inkstands were designed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to hold inkwells, dip pens, and sealing wax, serving as both functional tools and decorative statements on writing desks.

Traditional desk tidies were commonly crafted from electroplated nickel silver, solid sterling silver, brass, or cast iron, frequently incorporating glass or porcelain inserts for the ink reservoirs.

Authentic pieces usually feature manufacturer makers marks or EPNS stamps on the underside, alongside period-correct construction features such as cast feet, hand-chased borders, and weighted bases.

A silver desk tidy can be placed on a contemporary office desk, console table, or library shelf to organize modern stationery, fountain pens, or small everyday items.

Clean the surface gently using a soft cotton cloth and a specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive pads or harsh chemical cleaners that could strip the electroplated silver layer.
