This Georgian Cuban mahogany tea table dates from circa 1770 and exhibits a rich brown timber colour throughout. The construction incorporates a rectangular foldover top above a single oak-lined frieze drawer fitted with a brass swan-neck handle. Straight moulded legs support the heavy framework, with the back legs meeting in the centre when the top is closed. Measuring 74 cm in height, 82 cm in length, and 38 cm in depth when closed, the compact dimensions suit a narrow wall space in an English country house interior. The piece functions effectively as a hall table or a side table in a living room, hallway, or dining space.

A Georgian foldover tea table is an 18th-century piece of furniture designed with a hinged double-leaf top that opens to double its surface size for tea service, folding flat when placed against a wall.

Primary woods included dense timbers such as Cuban mahogany and walnut, paired with secondary woods like pine or oak for drawer linings, and cast brass hardware for handles.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original swing-leg support mechanisms, natural oxidation on underside surfaces, and heavy, dense timber characteristic of early mahogany imports.

These tables function effectively as hallway console tables, sofa back tables, or side tables, offering a slim profile when folded and expanding for functional use when required.

Preserve the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth, applying a high-grade beeswax polish periodically, and keeping the item away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources.
