This early nineteenth-century Georgian Regency folding tea table comes in a warm brown colour using a combination of mahogany, flame mahogany veneer, and boxwood stringing inlay. The piece is constructed with a rectangular fold-over top, a frieze with contrasting boxwood stringing inlay panels, and four ring-turned legs tapering down to simple narrow feet. Measuring 74 cm high, 91.4 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, the table provides a compact surface area suitable for placement beside the front door or in a hallway for small decorative items and keys. The woodwork shows a polished finish highlighting the natural grain of the flame mahogany panels and the precise geometric pattern of the inlay. The structural design stands upon four upright legs positioned at the corners, decorated with horizontal turned rings. This traditional tea table fits comfortably into a living room, hallway, or entryway as a functional accent piece that can also be opened flat against a wall when additional surface space is required.

Popular during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, a folding tea table is a dual-purpose piece of furniture crafted with a hinged top. When closed, it functions as a compact wall or console table; when opened, the top rotates or extends on a support leg to create a larger surface for serving tea or playing cards.

Tables from this period were primarily constructed from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, prized for their rich grain patterns. Accents often included boxwood or ebony stringing inlay, brass hinges, and turned oak or pine secondary timbers for internal frameworks.

Authentic pieces feature period-appropriate construction markers such as hand-cut dovetail joints, brass rule hinges set into the timber edges, natural uneven shrinkage along the underside, and authentic patina on the turned legs and apron.

Position the table closed against a hallway or living room wall to function as a narrow console table beneath a mirror or framed artwork. Alternatively, place it open behind a freestanding sofa to serve as a low display surface for table lamps and ceramics.

Preserve the timber finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and veneer cracking.
