FAQs

An antique oak farmhouse table is a traditional dining table originally crafted for daily domestic use in rural homes, characterised by sturdy solid oak construction, simple planked tops, and functional straight or turned legs.

Farmhouse tables are typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, elm, or pine, utilising mortise and tenon joinery alongside pegged frame construction to ensure durability.

Authentic examples exhibit signs of historical wear, uneven timber shrinkage along the top planks, hand-hewn tool marks, and original joinery techniques rather than modern screws or synthetic adhesives.

A large farmhouse table pairs effectively with contemporary dining chairs, neutral woven table runners, and minimalist pendant lighting to create an eclectic, balanced aesthetic.

To preserve the wood, wipe surfaces with a damp cloth, apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly, and avoid placing hot items or liquids directly onto the unsealed timber surface.
