We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

A farmhouse refectory table is a long, narrow dining table originally derived from medieval monastery dining halls and adapted for large country households. These tables traditionally feature timber plank tops supported by trestle bases or turned baluster legs joined by a central stretcher.

Traditional farmhouse tables are constructed using solid hard woods, primarily native oak, assembled with mortise and tenon joinery. Tops are typically formed from wide timber planks, often secured with cleated ends, while heavy stretchers connect the legs to ensure structural stability.

Authentic historic pieces feature evidence of hand-tooling, such as adze marks or pit saw impressions, along with natural shrinkage and irregularities in the wood planks. Look for hand-carved wooden peg joinery, authentic surface wear around the footrest stretchers, and a natural aged patina.

A large oak farmhouse table can be paired with contemporary minimalist chairs or mismatched industrial seating to create contrast between historic textures and modern lines. Position the table beneath a understated linear pendant light to highlight the natural grain and length of the timber top.

Clean the timber surface regularly using a soft, slightly damp cloth, avoiding chemical cleaners that strip natural oils. Periodically apply a clear beeswax paste in the direction of the grain to protect the oak from moisture and prevent drying or cracking.
