19th Century Rosewood Console Table with Concave Legs

19th century
Description

Very decorative 19th century English rosewood console table with fabulous concave front legs and square tapered legs to the back.

Great size for a hall but also in a living or dining room for use as a server, display or drinks table perhaps.

Very good book matched rosewood veneer to the table top and a fabulous rich colour throughout.

The concave legs are wonderful, giving the table a Regency feel but also would absolutely work in a more Art Deco environment too.

This 19th-century English console table exhibits a Regency style in warm brown rosewood with book-matched veneer on the semi-circular demilune top and a plain veneered apron. The piece stands on four legs, comprising two sweeping concave front legs and two square tapered back legs, creating a striking profile against any wall. The polished timber shows a rich, dark grain pattern running horizontally across the curved frieze, while the edge of the top features a simple rounded moulding. Standing 75 cm high, 141 cm wide, and 56.5 cm deep, the table fits comfortably into various spaces around the home. In a modern interior, this versatile furniture item functions well in an entrance hall beside the front door for keys and post, or in a living room or dining room as a display, serving, or drinks table. The clean lines and rich colour complement both traditional settings and more eclectic decorative environments without overpowering existing furnishings.

A demilune console table features a semi-circular top designed to sit flush against a wall, widely produced during the Regency and Victorian eras for placement in entry halls and reception rooms.

These tables were commonly constructed using dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut, featuring veneered aprons, hand-cut joinery, and solid timber legs.

Authentic pieces display distinct grain patterns characteristic of natural rosewood species, hand-sawn timber markings on unpolished undersides, and natural surface wear along contact points.

Position the table in an entryway or corridor paired with a wall mirror above the surface and minimal decorative ceramics on top to maintain clear lines.

Position the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent drying or split formation, dusting regularly with a lint-free cloth and applying beeswax sparingly.
