Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Queen Anne style occasional coffee table originates from 1910 and takes the form of a rectangular walnut piece rendered in a warm brown timber. The top has a raised tray rim with a moulded lip, sitting above an outswept scalloped frieze along the apron. It stands on four tall cabriole legs featuring carved knees and pad feet, accompanied by two pull-out slides. The construction displays a polished medium wood finish with visible grain patterns across the rectangular surface. Measuring 61 cm high by 76 cm wide and 46 cm deep, this compact occasional table functions well at the end of a sofa in a living room, study, or sitting area to hold drinks, books, or decorative items within an English country house interior scheme.

Tray top tables originated in the early eighteenth century, primarily designed as tea tables or silver tables. The raised edge or gallery served to prevent delicate ceramics, glassware, or silver items from sliding off the surface during service.

Eighteenth-century and early nineteenth-century tea and occasional tables were predominantly built from dense hardwoods such as walnut and mahogany. Construction often incorporated hand-cut dovetail joints, solid timber frames, and hand-carved decorative elements along the knees and frieze.

Authentic period pieces display age-appropriate wear, hand-planed surfaces on the underside, and natural oxidisation of the wood frame. Look for carved details that exhibit subtle irregularities from manual hand-tooling rather than uniform modern machine routing.

A low walnut table functions as a focal coffee table or occasional side table in contemporary living spaces. Position it alongside modern upholstered sofas to create a balanced contrast between historic timber textures and contemporary textiles.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the original surface finish. Avoid placing timber tables near direct heat sources, radiators, or damp areas to prevent wood movement and cracking.
