Late C19th European Continental hand-painted porcelain plaque after the Renaissance master, Raphael.

Finely painted gilt-wood framed and glazed rectangular porcelain plaque depicting the Raphael painting of the Madonna and child with Saint John , known as the “Madonna of the Chair” or “Madonna della Seggiola” . The picture portrays Mary seated and embracing the Christ child whilst Saint John devoutly watches.

The porcelain plaque set within a velvet-covered mount .

The verso of the plaque unmarked, but probably produced by the KPM Factory, Berlin , Germany.

The back of the frame bearing a retail paper label with hand-scripted description, for ‘The Fine Art Society , London’.

Painted in around 1513 the painting is considered to be one of Raphael’s most important works, the original tondo painting is exhibited in the Pitti Palace Museum, Florence, Italy.
