This large French Provincial dining table dates from the 1900 period and is constructed entirely from warm brown cherry wood. The rectangular piece displays a smooth polished finish across its planked timber top, complemented by square straight legs joined with visible pegged joinery and a single narrow drawer integrated into the end rail with a simple rectangular handle cutout. The substantial proportions measure 76 cm high, 301 cm wide, and 98 cm deep, providing generous surface space. Positioned comfortably in a spacious dining room or kitchen, this rustic farmhouse table accommodates multiple diners for everyday family meals or large gatherings. The functional design works well in traditional and transitional interior schemes, offering a durable surface for dining and food preparation while serving as a central focal point for entertaining.

FAQs

Historically crafted in rural regions during the 18th and 19th centuries, these tables were constructed from local hardwoods like cherry, oak, or walnut to serve as functional centrepieces for domestic dining and food preparation.

They are typically built using solid native timbers, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joinery, straight or tapered legs, and often incorporate end drawers for utensil storage.

Look for signs of age-related wear on the lower legs, hand-planed top boards, original pegged joinery, and natural patination within the cherry timber grain.

Pair the warm timber tones with minimalist modern dining chairs or sleek pendant lighting to create an intentional contrast between historic character and clean modern lines.

Clean regularly with a soft damp cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax paste annually to nourish the timber, and protect the surface from direct heat sources or excess moisture.
