Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French provincial dining table takes the traditional vendange form with a round planked top and a trestle base. Made from oak and fruitwood, the timber displays a warm brown tone with a visible grain, surface scratches, and dark peg fixings along the vertical joints. The tilt-top mechanism allows the circular surface to pivot on wooden pins above the sturdy support frame and flared feet. Measuring 70 cm high and 96 cm wide, the table operates practically for daily dining or occasional use. Positioned flat in a kitchen or dining room, the surface provides ample space for meals, while tilting upright creates a compact footprint for storage against a wall when not in use.

FAQs

A vendange table, historically used in French vineyards during the grape harvest, features a round tilt-top mechanism mounted on a trestle frame. This design allowed vineyard workers to store and transport the table efficiently between cellars and fields.

Traditionally constructed from regional hardwoods such as oak, fruitwood, or pine, these tables feature wide plank tops secured with wooden cleats. The tilt-top mechanism operates using wooden pivot joints and securing pegs on a trestle support base.

Authentic examples demonstrate hand-hewn timber markings on the underside, original wooden or iron pivoting hardware, and surface wear consistent with practical cellar use. Look for plank construction held by pegged joinery rather than modern fixings.

Fixed horizontally, it serves as a dining or breakfast table in a rustic or contemporary kitchen. Positioned with the top tilted vertically against a wall, it functions as a decorative element highlighting the patinated timber grain.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to maintain the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent the solid wood planks from warping.
