FAQs

Authenticity is determined by examining the timber grain, tool marks indicating hand-working, natural patina, and period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut mitres or pegged corners rather than modern fasteners.

An antique wooden tray can be styled on a coffee table or sideboard to corral smaller decorative objects, candles, or glassware, adding textural contrast and historical depth to contemporary spaces.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent splitting, cleaning with a dry or barely damp microfibre cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.

These pieces were typically crafted from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring hand-planed surfaces, dovetailed or mitred corners, and raised edges designed to secure glassware and ceramics.

Antique serving trays gained popularity during the Georgian and Victorian eras as domestic life evolved and formal hospitality became prominent in British households, often used for serving tea or displaying glassware.
