Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export wares produced in the Arita area of Hizen province and shipped from the port of Imari. Characterised by underglaze cobalt blue alongside overglaze iron-red and gold enamels, these ceramics became widely collected across Europe from the late 17th century onwards.

Imari chargers are constructed from kaolin-rich hard-paste porcelain fired at high temperatures. The decoration combines initial underglaze cobalt blue painting with secondary firings for polychrome overglaze enamels and liquid gold leaf gilding.

Authentic Meiji-period Imari ceramics feature hand-applied gilding showing natural surface wear, uneven glaze thickness, and spur marks on the underside from kiln support pins. Hand-painted brushwork displays minor variations rather than modern uniform transfer prints.

A large Imari charger functions well on a dark wood plate stand placed on a sideboard, or mounted securely on a neutral background wall. Its cobalt blue and rust red palette provides visual balance alongside dark mahogany cabinetry or minimalist furnishings.

Clean Imari porcelain using lukewarm water and mild soap, wiping gently with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid soaking or using chemical detergents and abrasive sponges, as these remove delicate surface gilding and overglaze enamels.
