Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This striking centre table dates from 1920 and is designed in the Regency style from ebonised wood, wood veneer and brass in black and gold colours. The large round top displays a rosewood crossbanded border set with six inset brass stars and double brass stringing, while the deep frieze has a substantial encircling brass strap. Beneath, the quadruped pedestal base comprises four turned columns and curved legs with gilt moulded decoration, brass rosettes and finely cast brass lion paw feet on concealed casters. The table measures 73.5 cm high by 137 cm wide and 137 cm deep, with a floor-to-underside height of 66 cm, and the top lifts from the base and secures with brass pins. Suitable as a grand statement piece in a principal reception room, library or large hallway, the table provides a substantial surface for display or decorative arrangements. The combination of deep black ebonised surfaces, warm rosewood grain and reflective brass elements creates a strong visual presence. The removable top and concealed casters offer practical flexibility for positioning and transport within a home.

FAQs

A Regency style ebonised centre table is characterised by dark, blackened timber surfaces, symmetrical proportions, classical architectural influence, and metallic accents such as inlaid brass lines, star motifs, and cast brass feet.

These tables were typically crafted from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or fruitwood, which were stained or lacquered black to imitate true ebony, then detailed with sheet brass inlay, wood veneers, and cast brass mountings.

Authentic period pieces show signs of hand-cut brass stringing, slight shrinkage gaps along wood joins, hand-finished brass mounts with natural oxidisation, and original wooden substructures beneath the ebonised coating.

An ebonised centre table functions well as a focal point in an entry hall, foyer, or grand living room, paired with contemporary neutral lighting and minimalist decorative ceramics to contrast the dark finish and brass detailing.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply specialized furniture wax sparingly to protect the dark ebonised surface, and avoid harsh chemical polishes that could loosen or tarnish the inlaid brass elements.
