Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Loving cups and novelty mugs, particularly those featuring surprise elements like frogs or newts inside, were popular in British pubs during the 18th and 19th centuries as drinking games or practical jokes for patrons finishing their drinks.

These pieces were typically crafted from glazed earthenware or stoneware, utilizing transfer-printing techniques in cobalt blue to apply detailed botanical or pastoral motifs onto the ceramic body.

Authenticity is determined by examining the crazing of the glaze, the depth and softness of the transfer-printed blue pigment, the weight of the earthenware body, and any characteristic makers marks or firing imperfections typical of 19th-century kilns.

Antique pottery adds historical depth to modern spaces when displayed as a standalone decorative object on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or glass-fronted cabinet, contrasting cleanly with minimalist surroundings.

Preserve antique ceramics by keeping them away from direct sunlight, avoiding abrasive cleaning agents, washing gently by hand only when necessary, and maintaining stable indoor humidity to prevent further glaze crazing.
