George III Mahogany Twin Pedestal Extending Dining Table
A handsome late 18th-century George III mahogany twin-pedestal extending dining table, crafted in fine, well-figured solid mahogany and retaining a pleasing, untouched character throughout.
The top is formed from three matched sections with gently rounded corners, resting on a pair of elegant pedestals, each with a ring-turned column and finely reeded, swept legs terminating in their original brass caps and castors. The proportions are wide and well balanced, giving the table a confident stance and excellent presence.
With the central leaf removed, the table forms an almost square plan, making it particularly useful as a compact dining or breakfast table while retaining excellent visual balance. When the leaf is fitted, the table extends to a comfortable six-seater dining table, suitable for everyday use or entertaining. The two pedestal ends may also be used independently as a pair of side or console tables, offering ge
...nuine versatility for both modern and period interiors.
This is a completely original Georgian example, retaining its early timbers, brasswork, and surface. The top displays a rich, aged patina with numerous marks, scratches, and blemishes consistent with long use — these have been well wax-polished in and contribute to the table’s authentic period charm rather than detracting from it.
Dimensions (Approximate):
Height: 71 cm (28 in)
Length (with central leaf): 164.5 cm (64 3/4 in)
Length (without central leaf): 119.25 cm (46 in)
Width: 116.25 cm (45 3/4 in)
Central leaf width: 45.25 cm (17 7/8 in)
Condition:
In very good, honest condition for its age. The table is structurally sound and sturdy, with no loose joints and no obvious signs of damage or repair. The surface retains its original finish and shows expected wear commensurate with over two centuries of use. The mahogany has a warm, even colour and the table has been sensitively cleaned and waxed in our workshop.
A genuine late 18th-century Georgian dining table with attractive, untouched character — versatile, practical, and ready for immediate use. As with all antique furniture, signs of age and use are present and should be expected.
