Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ruby glass chandelier stems were predominantly produced in Bohemia and Britain during the 19th century. These central glass columns served both functional and decorative roles in multi-tiered light fixtures, adding vibrant colour and reflective surfaces to candlelit or early gas lighting.

These items were created using flashed or cased glass techniques, where a layer of gold-tinted ruby glass was fused over clear or frosted glass base layers. Surface ornamentation was achieved through acid etching or hand-applied gold leaf gilding in organic motifs.

Authentic period pieces show variations consistent with hand-blown glass, including slight asymmetry, pontil scars at contact points, and natural rubbing or minor loss to the gilded decoration along high-contact edges.

These glass stems can be reassembled into functional light fittings or converted into standalone decorative objects. Displayed on a mantelpiece or shelf, the contrast between frosted textures, rich red tones, and gilding creates a focused accent within balanced displays.

Dust gently with a clean, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners, harsh detergents, or immersion in water, as moisture and friction can loosen or strip antique surface gilding.
