Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cellarette is a wooden container or chest designed to store wine bottles, popularized during the 18th and 19th centuries for formal dining rooms. The sarcophagus form features tapered, angled sides and a stepped hinged lid inspired by classical Egyptian and Roman stone sarcophagi, a style heavily favoured during the Regency period.

Regency wine coolers were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany and rich mahogany veneers. They frequently incorporated internal zinc or lead linings to contain meltwater from ice, alongside heavy brass carrying handles, brass banding, and hand-carved timber feet.

Authentic Regency cellarettes exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original iron or brass hardware with natural surface oxidisation, and dense mahogany timber. Look for classical architectural shaping, brass banding, and hand-carved support feet featuring zoomorphic motifs such as lions paws or dolphins.

An antique cellarette functions well as a low accent table, an alcove feature piece, or concealed storage within a contemporary home bar or dining area. Placing a structured wooden chest alongside soft modern furnishings creates a balanced and layered room scheme.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly using a clean, soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the patina of the mahogany veneer. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources, radiators, and high humidity to prevent timber movement or surface cracking.
