Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour intaglios are fine plaster or sulphur miniature reliefs taken from engraved gemstones, classical coins, and antique sculptures. Wealthy European travellers acquired them as portable mementos during 18th and 19th-century cultural tours of Italy and Greece.

Craftsmen cast plaster of Paris into wax or sulphur moulds created directly from carved gemstones or medals. Once set, the small plaster impressions were frequently bound with gilt paper strips and mounted in paper-lined trays or faux-book boxes.

Authentic period examples feature fine detail in the plaster profile, gilt paper edging around each cast, and period paper trays. Printed labels bearing the makers name, such as Pietro Bracci or James Tassie, along with Italian descriptive text, further verify age and provenance.

Display boxed intaglios open on a bookshelf, coffee table, or desk, or frame individual sets in deep shadow boxes. Their crisp white architectural forms offer a sophisticated Neoclassical accent that contrasts well against modern and dark interior backdrops.

Keep plaster intaglios in a dry, stable environment away from high humidity, which can soften or discolour plaster. Use a soft, clean dry brush to gently remove surface dust, and avoid liquid cleaners or damp cloths.
