FAQs

Art Deco table design from the 1920s and 1930s is defined by bold geometric forms, clean lines, and lavish veneering techniques. Designers frequently utilised highly figured woods such as burr walnut to create dramatic surface patterns, often paired with subtle curves or scalloped edges.

Tables from this period were typically constructed using solid timber frames overlaid with fine figured walnut or burr walnut veneers. High-quality construction often incorporated lower undershelves for stability and decorative edging such as scalloped or piecrust borders.

Authentic Art Deco pieces usually feature genuine timber veneers showing natural grain variations, hand-finished polish, and period-correct joinery underneath. Look for gentle surface wear consistent with age around the base and edges rather than uniform modern machine finishing.

An Art Deco walnut occasional table serves as a strong accent piece alongside contemporary sofas or modern minimalist armchairs. Place it as an end table or low side table to contrast rich wood tones against neutral upholstery and modern lighting.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, following the direction of the grain. Protect the walnut veneer from moisture and heat using coasters, and apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish periodically to maintain the lustre while avoiding silicone sprays.
