Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cordoban leather, also known as Guadamecil, originated in Spain and refers to gilded, embossed, and hand-painted leather panels created using traditional artisan techniques. During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, these panels were stitched together to form wall coverings and folding draught screens across European interiors.

These screens consist of heavy hide leather stretched over wooden frames, secured with brass upholstery studs along the edges. The surface was lined with silver or gold leaf, embossed using metal stamps or wooden blocks, and subsequently painted with oil pigments depicting baroque floral and botanical motifs.

Authentic period examples display age-related craquelure, subtle oxidisation of metallic foils, and hand-tooled irregularities in the embossing. The reverse often shows patinated canvas or exposed hide backing, accompanied by original brass studding along the panel borders.

A decorated gilt leather screen works effectively placed flat against a neutral wall as architectural art or angled in an empty corner to add height and texture. Positioned behind a sofa or sideboard, it brings warmth, rich tones, and historical depth to contemporary schemes.

Keep the screen away from direct sunlight, central heating sources, and damp environments to prevent the leather from drying out or cracking. Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush, avoiding water, chemical cleaners, or modern leather polishes that could damage original pigments and gilding.
