Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Neoclassical furniture gained prominence in the late 18th century, drawing inspiration from classical Greek and Roman excavations. The integration of Sevres-style porcelain plaques and ormolu mounts was popularised in French royal courts during the reigns of Louis XVI and later revived during the 19th-century Napoleon III period.

These pieces typically combine hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or satinwood with a solid marble top. Construction features include hand-carved wooden frames, cast brass or bronze ormolu mounts, and hand-painted ceramic porcelain inserts secured within the frieze.

Authenticity is assessed through the quality of the joinery, the weight and natural veining of the marble, and the chiselling detail on the brass ormolu. Hand-painted porcelain plaques with authentic factory marks and natural age-related patination on the timber frame also indicate period manufacture.

This table works well as a focal point in a minimalist or transitional living space to create a deliberate contrast between modern upholstery and classical ornamentation. Keeping the surface styling minimal with a single art book or a simple ceramic vessel highlights its decorative details.

Marble should be sealed periodically to prevent staining from liquids, and cleaned only with a damp cloth and pH-neutral soap, avoiding acidic cleaners. Timber frames benefit from occasional application of quality beeswax, keeping the room at a stable temperature away from direct sunlight.
