Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XVI style tables typically feature neoclassical design elements including straight lines, geometric symmetry, fluted tapered legs, and carved architectural motifs such as rosettes. While original eighteenth-century coffee tables did not exist, later adaptations utilise these classical French proportions and decorative features.

These tables were constructed with carved hardwood frames, often painted or gilded, and fitted with solid slabs of veined marble. The structural frame features mortise and tenon joinery with integrated stretchers to support the weight of the stone slab.

Authentic indicators include hand-carved decorative detailing, natural wear on painted surfaces, carved mortise and tenon joints, and hand-finished undersides on the stone top. Examining the timber frame reveals hand-sawn construction marks and age-appropriate distressing.

Position the table centrally within a seating area to serve as a focal point. Balance the visual weight of the stone surface by arranging minimalist ceramics, books, or low decorative glassware across the top.

Clean the marble surface using a pH-neutral cleaner designed for natural stone to avoid etching the finish. Dust the painted timber base gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive chemicals or excessive moisture.
