Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique Italian Sorrento low table from the nineteenth century combines walnut, olive wood, and fruitwood to create a coffee table in a Grand Regency style with a warm brown colour scheme. The octagonal top displays an intricate geometric starburst marquetry pattern surrounded by a detailed geometric border, supported by curved splayed legs. Soft tones of medium to dark brown timber grain show gentle wear consistent with age, while the stable structure stands ready for daily use. Measuring 66 cm in diameter and 56 cm in height, the piece sits comfortably in a reception space as an end table beside a sofa or within a traditional living room setting. The surface provides a stable display area for decorative items or everyday essentials, bringing historical craftsmanship into contemporary interiors.

FAQs

Sorrento ware refers to decorative woodwork produced in Sorrento, Italy, predominantly during the 19th century, characterized by intricate marquetry and wood inlay patterns.

Craftsmen used a variety of native and contrasting woods including olive wood, walnut, chestnut, orange wood, and fruitwoods to create detailed geometric and figurative designs.

Authentic pieces feature precision hand-cut wood veneers forming complex geometric or pictorial scenes, often showing natural oxidation, subtle age-related shrinkage, and traditional peg or dovetail construction underneath.

Position the table as a central accent piece alongside neutral contemporary seating to allow the intricate geometric wood patterns to remain the focal point of the space.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, keep away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer warping, and apply a high-quality beeswax paste periodically to protect the finish.
