Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma ware originated in the Satsuma province of southern Kyushu during the late sixteenth century. Production expanded significantly during the Meiji period (18681912), when Japanese artisans adapted their techniques to cater to international export markets, creating intricately decorated ceramics.

Satsuma ware is constructed from light-coloured earthenware clay finished with a transparent crackle glaze. Artisans apply detailed overglaze enamels and gold leaf trim, often depicting floral arrangements, insects, landscapes, or classical figures.

Authentic Meiji pieces display a fine, uniform crackle glaze, delicate hand-painted enamelling, and micro-detailed gilded highlights. Many examples feature artist or workshop signatures painted in gold or red enamel on the underside base.

A Satsuma ceramic bowl functions as a focal centerpiece on tabletop surfaces, sideboards, or open display shelving. Its neutral cream background and varied colour palette complement both maximalist and traditional decorative schemes.

Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a clean camel-hair brush to protect the delicate surface enamels. Avoid immersing the item in water or applying abrasive chemical detergents, as these can strip gilded detailing and moisture may seep into the porous glaze crazing.
