A pair of Victorian earthenware Staffordshire dog figurines from 1880, modelled in a seated spaniel pose, finished in a cream glaze with hand-painted black and yellow facial features, gilt decoration, and moulded fur texture. The figures face each other and display antiqued speckling and wear across their glazed surfaces. Each ceramic spaniel figurine stands 16 cm high, measures 12 cm wide, and is 6 cm deep. These decorative mantelpiece ornaments suit a traditional English Country House interior setting. Placed symmetrically upon a living room mantelpiece or a display shelf, they add character and historic detail to the fireplace surround or sideboard surface in a home today.

FAQs

Staffordshire dog figurines are lead-glazed earthenware spaniel ornaments manufactured primarily in the Staffordshire pottery district of England throughout the nineteenth century.

These figures were cast using press-moulded earthenware clay, coated in an opaque white or cream glaze, and decorated using overglaze enamels and occasional gilt details.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically feature a small release hole in the base, evidence of hand-painted enamel decoration, soft wear to the glaze, and a hollow interior.

These symmetrical ceramic figures are traditional accents for fireplace mantelpieces, sideboards, deep window sills, and open shelving units in classic or eclectic interior schemes.

Clean ceramic figurines by dusting with a dry, soft brush or wiping gently with a lukewarm water-dampened cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers and submersing in water.
