This nineteenth-century Italian pair of sculptures depicts two dynamic cockerels in realistic fighting poses on integrated naturalistic bases. Sculpted from earthenware terracotta, the figures showcase detailed feathering, distinct comb and wattle details, and smooth polished surfaces in a rich terracotta brown colour with subtle dark shading. One bird rears up on clawed feet with wings half-spread, while the other crouches forward with extended tail feathers and an alert head. The surfaces show uniform colouration with light wear consistent with age, maintaining crisp carved lines across the musculature and plumage without structural losses. Each sculpture measures 28 cm high, fitting comfortably on a sideboard top or console table in a rustic farmhouse interior. They bring character and movement to living spaces or studies as standalone decorative objects on display.
