Description

A characterful Victorian walnut games table, the rectangular top incorporating an attractive inlaid walnut and sycamore chessboard set within a framed veneered field, finished with gently rounded corners. The table is raised on paired bobbin-turned supports at each end, united by a full-width bobbin stretcher, all resting on solid sections with small turned feet.

The chessboard top provides both visual interest and practical use, while being finished on all sides allows it to be positioned freely within a room. It would suit a library, sitting room or study equally well, functioning as a games table or feature occasional table.

Presented in very good antique condition with an attractive aged patina and surface wear consistent with use and age. The table sits at a comfortable playing height, the feet having possibly been reduced at some point, as suggested by the low stretcher position, a practical alteration that makes it particularly well suited to use alongside relaxed living room or lounge seating. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
