Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Flintlock duelling pistols were developed in the late 18th century as specialized matched pairs produced for formal affairs of honour. Crafted under strict conventions of balance and weight, these firearms remained in standard production across Europe and Great Britain until the percussion lock system superseded them in the early 1830s.

Standard military and duelling pistols of this era incorporated dense hardwoods such as walnut for the stock, iron or steel for the barrel and lock mechanism, and brass or silver for the sideplates, trigger guards, and butt caps.

Authentic pieces display period-correct proof marks on the barrel, consistent age patination across metal surfaces, and correct flintlock ignition assembly details including cock, frizzen, and pan construction without modern machine welding.

Antique firearms are commonly displayed mounted inside custom shadow boxes or secured on brass stands atop mantelpieces, bookshelves, or desk consoles within classic or eclectic design schemes.

Preservation requires maintaining stable humidity levels to prevent timber shrinkage, along with applying microcrystalline wax to iron and brass fittings to protect against oxidisation and surface corrosion.
