Description

A beautiful pair of inlaid walnut Art Deco side tables. They were made in England and date from the 1930’s.

The quality is outstanding, they are a matched pair and being hand made, there are some slight differences in the inlays and also the thickness of the tops. Unless they are placed side by side, the differences are barely noticeable and they are the same overall size. Each has stunning inlaid banding with amazing walnut grain patterns, and they stand on pedestal bases. They are finished identically on all sides.

We have had them stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb for their age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

These pieces typically utilise a solid wood frame or carcase overlaid with decorative wood veneers, accented with contrasting stringing or marquetry inlay, and finished with French polish or shellac.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints, genuine timber veneers with natural ageing, and appropriate hardware or lack thereof depending on the minimalist aesthetic.

They function effectively as contrasting elements in modern minimalist rooms, adding warmth and tactile grain texture when paired with neutral upholstery and clean architectural lines.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to protect the polish, avoiding direct sunlight, moisture, and silicone-based sprays.

Art Deco furniture is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, symmetrical designs, and the extensive use of luxurious veneers such as burr walnut and mahogany.
