Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in the mid-nineteenth century, unglazed bisque and Parian porcelain were created to imitate carved white Carrara marble at a more accessible scale. British manufacturers produced these classical figures to appeal to Victorian taste influenced by Greek and Roman art.

These figures were cast using high-feldspar porcelain paste poured into plaster moulds. Once cast and dried, the pieces were fired at high temperatures without a silicate glaze, resulting in a matte, vitrified finish.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces exhibit sharp cast details, fine translucent qualities when held to light, and slight surface irregularities from hand-finishing. They often feature impressed registration marks, batch numbers, or maker marks near the base, along with a distinct silky, unglazed texture.

Place the sculpture on a dark wooden mantelpiece, console table, or within a minimalist bookshelf to create a visual contrast against the pale matte ceramic. Pairing the classical form with dark or textured backgrounds highlights the silhouette.

Remove surface dust using a soft, dry camel-hair brush or compressed air. Avoid liquid cleaners or soaps, as unglazed porous porcelain can absorb liquids and trap discolouration within the material.
