Description

A finely carved Chinese libation cup made during the late Qing to early Republic period, circa 1880–1930. The flaring rim is bordered with a key-fret band above a continuous register of archaistic taotie and scrollwork, accompanied by three small sculpted felines serving as ring-bosses. The body shows natural fibrous structure and warm translucent tones, characteristic of carved organic scholar’s vessels.

The form and decoration consciously reference early ritual bronzes translated into scholar’s objects and reflect the taste for archaism prevalent in late Qing and Republic-period workshops.
