This Victorian coopered oak and brass jug originates from the late 1800s to 1900 in a rustic farmhouse style. The piece is constructed from dark brown wooden staves with polished brass binding bands, a flared brass rim, and a large angular brass handle. The visual details include three horizontal brass bands encircling the wooden slats, visible screws securing the metal hardware, and natural variations in the dark timber finish. It measures 39 cm in height, 36 cm in width including the handle, and 28 cm in diameter at the base. The jug functions primarily as a decorative display object for the home. It suits placement on a dining room sideboard top or a kitchen shelf as a sculptural accent piece. The substantial vessel offers a traditional aesthetic that complements rustic or period interiors.

A coopered oak jug is a traditional serving vessel constructed by barrel makers using fitted wooden staves held together under tension by metal hoops.

Victorian examples typically combine hardwoods like oak with polished brass or copper bands, rims, and handles secured by period metal fasteners.

Authentic pieces feature period joinery, naturally aged timber, slotted screws, and historical oxidisation along the brass straps and handle joins.

Place the item on a sideboard top, kitchen island, or mantelpiece to introduce textural contrast alongside modern ceramics or glassware.

Keep the timber dry to prevent warping, clean with a microfibre cloth, and polish the wood with clear beeswax while avoiding harsh chemical metal cleaners.
