Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French Napoleon III side table dates from 1870 and serves as a lamp or accent table at the end of a sofa. The piece takes a square form with drop leaves on the sides, supported by curved cabriole legs. Rich brown rosewood veneer covers the timber structure, complemented by exotic wood floral marquetry inlays across the top and drop leaves. Ornate brass ormolu mounts adorn the tops of the legs, while the surface displays natural variations in the timber grain. The height measures 76 cm, with a width and depth of 56 cm each. Placed in a modern interior, this functional table provides a convenient surface for lamps, books, or decorative objects in a living room or reception space.

FAQs

Originating in France during the Second Empire between 1852 and 1870, Napoleon III furniture is defined by elaborate revival influences, dark exotic woods, fine marquetry work, and decorative metal mounts.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as rosewood, walnut, or mahogany for veneers, adorned with multi-wood floral marquetry and cast brass or bronze mounts.

Authentic pieces feature precision hand-cut wood marquetry, original cast-metal mounts fitted with historical screw threads, and traditional hand-jointed timber construction on the underside.

Position the table beside contemporary tailored seating or within an entryway to establish a focal point that highlights historical craftsmanship against clean architectural lines.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources, wipe gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly along the grain.
