Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Door hardware from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries frequently featured a combination of cast metal mountings and ceramic, glass, or wooden grips. Designs moved from heavily ornamented brass to cleaner nickel-plated finishes alongside ceramic components in contrasting shades such as black or white.

These pulls were constructed using a central ceramic or porcelain body mounted on a central metal rod. The assembly was secured at either end by nickel-plated brass or iron brackets featuring oval backplates for screw attachment to timber doors.

Authentic period examples typically show minor manufacturing irregularities in the ceramic glaze, age-appropriate wear to the nickel plating revealing base metal beneath, and standard slotted screw holes rather than modern cross-head fittings.

These handles can be mounted on interior timber doors, pantry entrances, or large fitted wardrobes to introduce period authenticity. The contrast between silver-toned nickel and black ceramic complements both traditional joinery and contemporary dark-painted cabinetry.

Clean the porcelain grips with a mild soapy water solution and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners. The nickel-plated metalwork should be wiped clean gently and treated with a non-abrasive metal polish only if necessary to prevent stripping the thin nickel layer.
