Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century mannequins were developed primarily for haute couture ateliers and tailors to construct, drape, and alter garments to specific proportions. As commercial retail expanded during the Victorian period, these forms were also adopted for shop window displays to showcase current fashions.

Victorian mannequin torsos were commonly constructed from molded papier-mache, padded straw, or heavy card, covered with linen or cotton fabric. The supporting legs, bases, and neck finials were typically crafted from turned wood or cast iron.

Authentic period mannequins often feature proportioned silhouettes typical of the era, visible hand-stitching along fabric seams, and natural surface wear on the base or wooden components. Maker stamps or stencilled sizing marks on the chest or neck also indicate historical origin.

Interior designers frequently position full-body or torso mannequins as standalone sculptural elements in dressing rooms, bedrooms, or entrance halls. They can also be used as functional display stands for vintage textiles, scarves, or statement jewellery.

Preservation requires light dusting with a soft, dry brush or vacuuming on low suction through a fine mesh screen to protect aged fabric. Direct sunlight and high humidity should be avoided to prevent material fading and dry rot.
