Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cricket tables originated in rural Britain during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, defined by their distinct three-legged structure. The three legs provided stability on uneven stone or brick floors in farmhouses and taverns, making them a practical domestic design that persisted into twentieth-century revival furniture.

Traditional cricket tables are predominantly constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak, elm, or pine. The joinery typically relies on mortise and tenon joints, with turned wooden legs connected to a circular timber top and often supported by a lower triangular stretcher or shelf.

Authentic pieces from this period exhibit natural wear on footrests, precise joinery, and uniform patination on the timber. Carved elements will show subtle variation from hand-finishing, and the underside of the tabletop usually displays age-appropriate timber shrinkage and oxidisation.

A cricket table functions as an occasional side table beside a armchair or sofa. Its compact circular footprint allows placement in narrow spaces, reading nooks, or hallway alcoves to add wood depth and texture to contemporary rooms.

Dust the wood surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to prevent abrasive particle build-up. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the oak timber, while keeping the table away from direct heat sources and liquid spills.
