A charming antique Jacobean style oak side table. The side table has a rectangular shaped top, above a long drawer, with brass drop handles. Raised on bobbin turned supports with a bobbin stretcher across the front and three square stretchers to the side and back.

The Jacobean style originated in England during the reign of King James I in the early 17th century. It is characterised by sturdy oak construction, heavy proportions, straight lines, geometric panel mouldings, and intricate wood turning such as bobbin or spiral legs.

Traditional Jacobean side tables were predominantly built from solid native English oak, known for its density and durability. Components were joined using wooden pegs and hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, often accented with brass drop handles or iron fittings.

Authentic period pieces display hand-planed surfaces, irregular saw marks, and pegged joint construction where wood pegs protrude slightly from natural shrinkage over time. Darkened patination in recesses and historic wear on lower stretchers and drawer runners also indicate age.
