FAQs

Walnut furniture from earlier eras is recognised for its tight grain patterns, rich colouration, and natural durability. While low coffee tables are largely a twentieth-century adaptation, traditional walnut tables were constructed with sturdy joinery, plank tops, and simple apron supports.

Traditional walnut furniture features solid timber construction, often employing peg joinery, hand-planed top surfaces, and mortise-and-tenon joints. The high density of walnut provides structural stability without requiring heavy framework.

Authentic pieces display natural wear, subtle variations in wood grain, hand-cut joinery marks, and uneven patination along surfaces subject to daily use. Inspecting the underside reveals original tool marks and age-appropriate shrinkage across the timber planks.

A solid walnut coffee table grounds a contemporary living space by introducing warm wood tones and organic texture. Style the wide surface with stacked art books, ceramic vessels, or understated metal objects to balance the visual weight of the timber.

Dust the timber regularly using a soft, dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the wood finish. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, cracking, or uneven colour fading.
