Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Public house signage became widespread in Britain following a royal decree in 1393 requiring taverns to display signs for official identification. Visual pictorial imagery was essential during historical periods when literacy rates were low, allowing patrons to easily recognise local establishments.

Hanging pub signs were typically fabricated from heavy-gauge sheet iron, wrought iron mounting frames, or durable hardwoods like oak. The surfaces were painted using weather-resistant oil enamels designed to withstand prolonged exposure to rain and sunlight.

Authentic historic signs display genuine surface wear, including natural paint flaking, craquelure, and edge oxidisation around iron mountings. Original pieces feature hand-painted typography and brushwork rather than modern screen-printed or vinyl graphics.

Large commercial signs serve as impactful focal points when wall-mounted on exposed brickwork, set within an entryway, or integrated into a gallery wall. Combining reclaimed commercial signage with clean-lined contemporary furnishings creates an engaging textural contrast.

Dust the surface gently using a dry, soft microfibre brush to avoid dislodging flaking paint layer fragments. Avoid applying liquid chemical cleaners, water, or abrasive polishes, as these alter the historical surface patina and damage unstable paint.
