An Ashford Black Marble paperweight produced in Derbyshire, circa 1860–1880. The rectangular form is inlaid with a detailed floral spray using various hardstones, including white, blue and green specimens, applied in the pietra dura technique. Ashford marble, prized for its deep black polish, was quarried locally and widely used for decorative wares in the 19th century. This example showcases the precision and material richness of Victorian stone craftsmanship.
