Turkish Silver-inlaid Flintlock Holster Pistol. 19th Century, (Fully Working, 41cm). For Ottoman Collector of Arms.

19th century
Description

A superb 19th century Ottoman Turkish flintlock holster pistol, 42cm overall with 11. 25" barrel, approximately 22-bore.

The barrel is extensively chased and decorated with true silver wire and solid silver inlay. As usual with these antique flintlocks, it is not hallmarked.

Further inlaid detail to the wooden stock. The lock retains areas of original gilt pan and gilt inlay, and is in excellent working order.

The stock and mounts are richly decorated, including star-and-crescent motifs to the trigger guard and butt cap — distinctive of Ottoman craftsmanship.

The inlay is not pressed or plated but genuine hand-laid silver wire and solid silver pieces.

The lock interior is complete and original, confirming this is not a later tourist or decorative example but an authentic 19th century pistol of top quality.

This pistol represents one of the finer levels of Ottoman workmanship, both decorative and functional, and would make an outstanding addition to any serious collection of antique arms.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Ottoman flintlock holster pistol is a 19th-century black powder firearm characterised by a flint-striking ignition mechanism and elaborate metal wire inlay. Designed to be carried in saddle holsters, these items served as both functional sidearms and symbols of personal status across the region.

These firearms typically feature a forged steel barrel and lock mechanism set into a carved hardwood stock, often made of walnut or fruitwood. Decorative wire or sheet inlay made from silver, brass, or gold alloys was set into hand-chiselled channels on the wood and steel surfaces.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved scroll motifs on the stock, detailed silver wire inlay, and period-appropriate arsenal markings or maker stamps on the barrel. The lock mechanism will show signs of historical hand-forged construction and natural, age-appropriate surface oxidisation.

A decorative antique firearm can be displayed mounted inside a shadow box frame or presented on a bespoke stand atop an office desk or shelf. Positioning the object alongside bound volumes and leather accents complements a traditional study or library aesthetic.

Keep the item in a climate-controlled environment with low humidity to prevent surface rust on steel components and warping of the timber stock. Clean metal surfaces gently with a soft cloth and microcrystalline wax, avoiding abrasive compounds that could lift delicate silver wire.
