Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Vitreous enamel signs became widespread in the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to their durability and resistance to weather. Double-sided variations were typically mounted perpendicular to storefronts or fixtures to catch pedestrian traffic from both directions.

These signs were manufactured by fusing powdered glass to a heavy wrought iron or steel base plate at high temperatures. This process created a hard, glass-like coating that preserved bold lettering and prevented rust where intact.

Authentic early 20th-century enamel signs generally feature significant weight due to heavy gauge metal substrate, raised lettering felt under hand, and natural chips showing underlying dark oxidised metal rather than modern painted distress marks.

An enamel sign can be mounted on a narrow wall, positioned on a bookshelf ledge, or displayed above a console table to introduce an industrial, historical accent. Pairing the clean typography with natural timber or contemporary steel finishes creates visual balance.

Clean the enamel surface gently using a soft cloth, mild dish soap, and warm water, avoiding abrasive pads that could scratch the vitreous surface. Ensure exposed metal edges showing oxidisation are kept dry to prevent further rusting.
