Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the late nineteenth century in Britain, bamboo furniture in the Aesthetic Movement reflected a growing fascination with East Asian design aesthetics. Craftsmen integrated natural bamboo and cane materials with ebonised finishes to imitate Japanese lacquerware, producing lightweight, decorative domestic pieces.

These tables were typically constructed using a primary structural framework of hollow bamboo stalks, often stained or ebonised. Tops and undershelves were formed using woven reed, cane, or lacquered panels, occasionally fitted with brass stay arms for support.

Authentic period examples feature genuine joinery techniques with pinned bamboo nodes, patinated brass fittings, and hand-woven reed or cane panels. The ebonised finish often exhibits natural wear, micro-crazing, and exposure of the underlying golden bamboo tone at high-touch areas.

Position the piece as an occasional side table beside a tailored sofa or armchair to create visual contrast against neutral upholstery. The dark framework and textured woven panels add tactile interest, making it suitable for modern eclectic, traditional, or bohemian room schemes.

Keep the item away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent the bamboo from splitting and the woven reed from becoming brittle. Dust regularly with a soft dry brush or microfiber cloth, and avoid applying saturated cleaning liquids that could damage the ebonised finish.
