This late Georgian Pembroke table is made from kingwood and satinwood, finished in a warm brown colour. The oval top has extended drop leaves, satinwood crossbanding, and a diamond parquetry centre inlay with delicate stringing. A single frieze drawer is fitted with two circular gilt-brass rosette drop handles and sits on four square tapered legs. The table stands 50 cm high, measures 70 cm wide, and is 77 cm deep. Suitable for placement at the end of a sofa in a living room or study, this piece provides a functional surface for everyday use in a traditional English country house setting. The classic form and fine decorative veneers integrate smoothly with existing antique or transitional furniture arrangements.

A Pembroke table is a versatile drop-leaf side table introduced during the eighteenth century, featuring two hinged flaps that extend the tabletop surface, often fitted with a single frieze drawer.

Cabinetmakers constructed these tables using solid hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, and kingwood, frequently adorned with decorative veneers, marquetry or parquetry inlays, and brass drawer hardware.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-planed secondary timbers like oak or pine, original cast brass fittings, and slender, hand-carved or tapered square legs.

These adaptable tables function as compact desks, hall accent surfaces, or side tables beside seating, allowing the hinged leaves to be folded down when space is limited.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth, apply clear beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to protect the timber, and avoid positioning the table near heat sources or direct sunlight to prevent veneer movement.
